　　Many people are active in fighting against unfair treatment to coloredpeople，women，animals and so on. Right now I am talking about fighting forrespect to our environment. Though the environment doesn’t have a mouth todeprecate what humans have done to her，she retaliates through action. In theearly years the Chinese cut down large quantities of trees，at the source of theyellow river，which led to the disappearance of big forests and terriblefloods.

　　As a result，the Huangtu plateau which was once covered with grass andforests was turned into barrens that supported fewer plants. Another example wasin several developed countries. Because many chemical factories dischargedpoisonous gas without filtering it，cities were covered with so much poisonousgas that people were killed by the air they breathed in. What horrible scene！What we are suffering is only a small part of what the nature once suffered. Ifwe don’t take action to show respect to the environment，we will have to face anincreasingly awful situation. Measures should be taken to protect theenvironment on which we are relying.

　　First governments should forbid destroying vegetation，rivers and lakes，oceans，as and the atmosphere as well. Second voices should be made to announcethe public of the importance of protecting the environment. Third enterprisesshould pay special attention to the effect they have on the environment and workout solutions for the problems. Only by changing the way we treat theenvironment can we get along well with it. Only by saving the environment can wesave ourselves.

　　Although the world develops much faster and better，the resources on theearth get fewer and fewer. In order to protect them，something must be done.

　　Save water. Water is the source of life. No water，no life. So it's veryimportant for us to do so. Not only should we protect drinking water and stoppolluting it，but also make full use of it.

　　Save electricity. It is crucial. We can't imagine what the life will belike without it. Everyone should do his best to save electricity. Don't forget toturn off lights or other electric machines when we finish working.

　　Save forests. They are useful. Please stop cutting them down and userecycled paper instead. Make our world a green one to live in.

　　Recycle useful rubbish. Plenty of rubbish can be recycled like cans，paper，bottles，and so on. We can save resources in this way.

　　To protect the environment，governments of many countries have done a lot.Legislative steps have been introduced to control air pollution，to protect theforest and sea resources and to stop any environmental pollution. Therefore，governments are playing the most important role in the environmental protectiontoday.

　　In my opinion，to protect environment，the government must take even moreconcrete measures. First，it should let people fully realize the importance ofenvironmental protection through education. Second，much more efforts should bemade to put the population planning policy into practice，because more peoplemeans more people means more pollution. Finally，those who destroy theenvironment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them knowthat destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.

　　Environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over theworld. For example，cars have made the air unhealthy for people to breathe andpoisonous gas is given off by factories. Trees on the hills have been cut downand waste water is being poured continuously into rivers. Furthermore，whereverwe go today，we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. Pollution is，in fact，threatening our existence.

　　The earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselvesand for our later generations. Fortunately，more and more people have realizedthese problems. Measures have been taken to cope with these problems by thegovernment. Laws have been passed to stop pollution. I hope the problem will besolved in the near future and our home will become better and better.
