這天，八戒匆忙趕到，卻發現早朝堂里空無一人，連老師太上老君都沒來，他覺得很奇怪：這么晚了，這里怎沒沒人？可能不上早朝了，但他們都上哪兒去啦？想完，他就乘云來到太上老君的府上，見老君不在府上，就東張西望，突然，他發現老君的書桌上有一些書，他便過去看，發現是英語書，正巧，老君來了，八戒問：“今天怎么不上早朝？再說了，你們學英語干嘛？”老君說：“今年玉帝讓我們去外國旅游開開眼界，要學好英語，現在還有三個月期限，還上什么早朝？趕快抓緊時間學英語吧！不學就晚啦！”八戒說：“原來如此！我要學，但讓哪兒學？”“去你大師兄在水簾洞辦的'“悟空優級英語培訓班”呀！”“哈！這個猴子，什么時候由神仙成英語高手了？”說完，他駕上云彩來到水簾洞，只見水簾洞上面有一塊精美的大牌，上面寫著“優級英語培訓班”，底下又用英語寫了一遍，他進去一看，發現悟空正在上面講課，就走過去說：“猴哥，我來學英語了。”“呦！真是太陽從西邊出來了！你這懶鬼也知道學了！”“嘿！猴哥，我也有勤快的時候嘛！”“行，你找個位子坐下吧，只要你肯學，三個月后，你就可以去領背包旅游了。”八戒聽完，就像悟空要了一套學習英語的用具，到一個座位上坐下了，由于悟空教得好管得嚴，八戒很快改掉了懶的毛病，他現在非常喜歡學英語，每天早拿一個饅頭就去上課了，結果休息時他在讀，甚至放學了他還在讀，早上帶的饅頭竟只吃了五分之一！
長期的刻苦努力終于換來了優秀成績，送行路上，玉帝拿出一份食品，裝到了八戒的背包里，又拍了拍他的肩膀，說：“這一份食品是你改掉毛病勤勞學習的獎勵！”八戒聽了，不好意思的笑了。
